We noted a piece by Monash University academic, Dr Bob Birrell, in The Australian, July 22 2009.
Dr Birrell, who is an influential critic of the overseas student industry market has told us that some 40,000 former overseas students, with little chance of winning permanent residency, have been allowed to overstay on temporary or bridging visas, but with full work rights.
These ex -students are ripe for exploitation ( sound familiar? ) on the cheap labour market. They also compete for housing with Australian youth and also with the refugee/ low skilled migrant groups, fuelling tensions also amongst the intrusive groups. But as ever, working class Australians are heading to the bottom of the pile.
DAILY TELEGRAPH REPORTS HOME PRICES SURGE!
The Daily Telegraph reported, that John Edwards of Property Monitor Residex, said recently: "increased skilled migration is pushing up house prices".
Sydney is already getting too expensive for "ordinary" families and the problem is set to get worse. Clearly, these skilled migrants can out bid most people, consequently inflating prices. Between cashed- up skilled migrants and overseas investors, the Aussie dream is evapourating fast.
This is just the begining! Some argue that the median house price is set to hit one million dollars by 2020.
Some may relish the notion that by 2020 they may be "millionaires". Yet this sort of wealth is an illusion- like during the Hitler era when ordinary workers had to push wheelbarrows full of money down the street- just to buy a loaf of bread.
Who said immigration is good for Australia ?
