We publish a piece by Peter Schuback, a Queensland member of The Australian Long Distance Owners and Drivers Association and The Australia First Party.
I needed to buy a couple of new cars for the company and thinking I was doing the right thing, I decided to buy Australian made. Thinking back, I remembered that the only Australian made cars were Holden. They had a factory in Acacia Ridge in Queensland, another in Pagewood in Sydney and a couple more around Australia. So I brought a Holden Captiva, a Holden Rodeo Ute and a Holden Vivia. I imagined I was buying Australian and helping to create work for my fellow Aussie.
Blow me down, but not one of them is made in Australia! So Mr Rudd, if you spent 42 billion dollars of Australian taxpayers money on stimulating the ecomony, why was that money not used to create real long term employment-like in the vehicle industry? Why does Australia import cars, trucks, farm equipment, earth moving equipment? Why are our steel works shut down? Why was our ship building industries in Newcastle shut down? And don't tell me because it's cheaper to import these goods because that just isn't true. the South Koreans are now building the ships we were once building.
It is time for all Australians to stand up and demand we once again become a leader in the secondary industry, a leader in the manufacturing of every item that we need in our daily lives.
Have a nice Australia Day and ask yourself are Australians deficient that we cannot manufacture all of the goods and products that we now import? Or have we been sold out by the Australian State itself? And we really pay through the nose for these imports. And ask why a brand new Ford Mustang car in the USA is only $29,000 and in Australia you pay somewhere around $60,000 for it. Why can you buy trucks in the USA for around a third of the price you pay in Australia. Why is our cost of living going through the roof and why are our jobs being sent of shore to the detriment of the Australian people and Australian economy? The answer lies in greed and the power of the overseas owned companies. Buy Australian if you can find anything actually made here!
