The KRudd Government is sitting on a time bomb and the clock is ticking.
Why ? There is no Indonesian Solution for "asylum seeker" immigration. The disturbing events playing out in a Javanese port, where the vessel Merak has been in dock and held up for months ( well before the Oceanic Viking fiasco ), with Tamil "asylum seekers" on board who refuse to disembark in Indonesia and who demand to be brought to Australia.
The Indonesian Goverment is losing paitence with this issue and wants the Merak out of their port. The Indonesian Government has requested the Australian Government resolve the standoff immediately as they did with the Tamils on board the Oceanic Viking.
Of course, that is not in the true Australian national interest either. These people should be returned to Sri Lanka.
The KRudd Government has told the Indonesians that it is not Australia's problem, but Indonesia's problem and Australia will not be dealing with the situation.
Yesterday, the Indonesians have arrested 2 Australian refugee activists and a Canadian, confiscated their passports and held them for 12 hours at a police station. Indeed, these agitators may have been behind a lot of refugee immigration to Australia.
Has KRudd forgotten that Indonesia is a large Muslim country sitting on Australia's doorstep ? The KRudd Government will at its own peril- and our peril- continue a fruitless provocation of a close neighbour, which has tried to assist the KRudd Government previously in dealing with the illegal immigration problem.
Let us play "scenarios" What if KRudd ultimately jeopardised the security of Australia, such that the next boats to arrive in Australian waters were loaded with the Indonesian military.
What will KRudd do ? Send out the one submarine it has in its fleet, the only one that is actually operational ? Will that stave off hostile Indonesians heading for Australian shores ?The Indonesian Solution is no solution. The situation is out of control.
Note: It has been revealed, Australia doesn't have the capacity to protect its borders- and not just from refugees !
With a large number of our experienced military personnel deployed overseas, there is a shortage of experienced service people left here in Australia. It was reported last week that Australia has deployed a contingent of the Army Reserve to Afghanastan. This is the first time this has happened since the Vietnam war. And once again- it is not our war !
