The notion that contaminated overseas beef products could have entered Australia would have riled previous generations of Australian politicians. Not now. Free trade allows everything.
A people's movement is building against this madness.
The key to winning this fight is people's action. Despite the interest Aussie farmers and workers of all types have a vibrant local beef industry, there are movers and shakers behind the National Farmers` Federation and similar federations-who are for free trade. These folks arn't allies of the people.
So as individuals or in small groups: get letters going in to all papers, including trades and other papers; ring radio talk-back and go to town on the facts; put together local pickets of your Federal MP's offices particularly if he's a National and likes to pretend he has the rural interests at heart; call on the Meatworkers Union to strike ( and on this one they may have the companies in support ); call on TWU and the Maritime Union to "black" the imported products ( this will pit some organizers and the rank and file squarely against those who toe the ALP line on Free Trade ); The Australian Long Distance Owners And Drivers Association may also blacklist imported products; similar political groups are keen allies in any fight with the big parties; and don't forget the old supermarket protest-load your trolleys with imported products and leave it at the checkouts.
In other words, what people do is the important thing and one can do in tandem with just a few friends.
Australia First Party will support any local action taken by anyone-and do so in a co-operative manner. For any comments on any of the above-we're happy to oblige , to contact us e-mail ausfirst@alphalink.com.au
